Women Who Inspire Series

These inspiring women overcame personal and political challenges in their quest to make the world a better place. Helen Keller learned to read and write despite being blind and deaf. In later years, she advocated for the welfare of blind people. Clara Hughes, world-class cyclist and speed skater, was the first Olympian to win multiple medals in both the Winter and Summer Games. Wangari Maathai, founder of the Green Belt Movement, was the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Malala, also a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, is a Pakistani activist for female education.
